Pelicans in Provo
The gorgeous stretch of sand near our condo is sometimes called Pelican beach, after the two pelicans that live nearby and fish our waters quite frequently. Recently, their son (we named him Peter) has taken to perching on the jetty. You know it’s Peter if he has a brownish/grey head instead of a white head (indicating that he is a juvenile).
Talk about an amazing vacation photo op. A wild pelican sitting on a rock 2 feet away from you. Strategically place family members behind him and snap away…you’re not in Kansas anymore Toto! Nor are you captive at an all-inclusive resort crammed with tourists who have picked up all of the shells and scared away any native birds. Our 4 year old son managed to walk up and pet Peter. I would not advise this behavior out of respect for wildlife and his very sharp beak.
Please leave a comment if you’ve run into Peter or his parents while visiting Turks & Cacios!
